Causes and Treatment of Rosacea ( Azelaic Acid)

Rosacea is generally characterized small, reddish bumps on the person’s face. The International Rosacea Foundation claims that about 100 million individuals are suffering from rosacea worldwide. The cause of rosacea and how its symptoms can be treated will be discussed.

What causes rosacea exactly is still unknown. On the other hand, rosacea is mostly associated with specific factors like the food we consume. Rosacea sufferers may experience worsening of their skin condition when they eat too much spicy foods and drink too much alcoholic drinks. Aside from too much exposure to either extreme heat or extreme cold, rosacea may also worsen because of stress and anger. Hot baths and saunas and corticosteroids may also worsen the condition.

Rosacea is common among light-skinned individuals. People living with families with a history of rosacea have higher risk of developing rosacea. The development of the skin condition is from 30 to 60 years old. It is actually a progressive skin condition which means that it can get worse as the sufferer ages. The bad thing about rosacea is it cannot be cured. However, there are many prescribed medications, usually topical applications, which the sufferer may use in treating the symptoms of rosacea.
Some of the most common medications are isotretinoin and benzoyl peroxide. These medications are also available over the counter. Consistent use of any of these products may lead to fewer outbreaks. Cysts are also not that profound. You have to use moisturizers to complement the drying effects of these products.

There are other precautions when using the products though. You have to use gentle cleansers so as not to exacerbate the condition. You have to wash your face before applying the topical product. You must not use cosmetic products that have high alcohol or chemical contents. Your face might get irritated when you use such products, causing rosacea flare-ups in the process.  Outbreaks could be also reduced if you wear sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher even for casual exposure to the sun. You also have to wear mask during winter. Rosacea is triggered by both extreme heat and extreme cold. Azelaic Acid is one of the most recommended Rosacea treatments used by Dr's everywhere.
